Whangaehu W.D.F.F. Annual Meeting

Mrs. 0.8. Hawken presided at the usual monthly meeting held this time in the afternoon. There was not as large an attendance as usual several apologies being received on account ot illness. The president was pleased to welcome three visitors to the meeting, one c£ whom was the secretary of the Whangaehu Federated Farmers, Mr. R. Baldwin, who later in the afternoon gave a statement of accounts in connection with the recent combined W.D.F.F. and Federated Farmers dance. After the reading of the minutes the president reported that she had been able to attend Waitotara W.D.t''.£. birthday party—members had visited Fordeli and Wanganui for their birthday celebrations. Mr. Baldwin then gave a statement of accounts in connection with the dance and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Federated Farmers members for their help with decorations and also to Mr. Bill Castles, who had been responsible for the very effective ceiling decorations. Mrs H. Anderson gave the provincial report and Mrs. L. Mackintosh presented a copy of the T. and C. Resiuen. tial Nursery’s report and balancesheet for perusal. It wa". decided to make a donation from the branch to U.N.i.C.E.F. This month’s donations of tinned meat would be the final collection of Food for Britain and it was decided to forward all tinned goods on hand to the Food for Britain depot. The hostesses for the afternoon then served tea despite the fact that the power had been oft for most of the afternoon. Mrs. Hawken gave a very interesting demonstration of the correct way of pruning roses. This was followed tjdth a great deal of interest many questions being asked and answered. A hearty vote of thanks was carried by acclamation to Mrs Hawken . Members were reminded of a comanittee meeting to be held to discuss the birthday celebrations and flower show.
