WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Fordell The August meeting of the-Fordell Institute was very well attended. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Randell, Mrs. Speer (vice-president), presided, and welcomed all, especially a new member, Mrs. Dickinson, and a visitor, Mrs. Evans, senr.
All stood in silence in sympathy with Mrs. Randell in her great loss. Correspondence was dealt with and it was agreed to discontinue sending food parcels to England, but to forward £5 to the UNICEF appeal. Mrs. Morgan then gave a most interesting report on her visit as delegate to the conference at Christchurch, making special mention of the wonderful handcrafts displayed. After a dainty afternoon tea the singing of the National Anthem brought a very happy afternoon to an end.
Competition results were: Three Iceland poppies, Mrs. Evans 1, Mrs. Morgan 2, Miss Flyger 3; three eggs, Mrs. Morgan 1, Mrs. Evans 2, Mrs, Downey 3; best bloom, Mrs. Morgan 1, Mrs. Howie 2, Mrs. Speer 3.
