Strike In Industrialised Liege Area

BRUSSELS, Aug 19 (Recd 6 pm).— A strike broke out today throughout Belgium’s highly industrialised Liege area as news of the assassination of Deputy Julpen Lahaut, 65-year-old president of the Belgian Communist party, spread among factory workers. It is estimated that 15,000 iron and steel workers in Scharleroi, and as many coalminers in the Liege district began a 24-hour strike in protest against the murder. The protest strike movement is expected to spread.
