COMMUNIST CHINA SAID TO BE GOING TO INVADE TIBET
HONGKONG, Aug. 6 (Rec. 6 pm). —Communist China intends marching on Tibet at an early date, according to a statement by General Liupochen, chairman of the SouthWest China Military Affairs Commission, quoted today by the official Communist news agency. Chinese observers interpreted the statement to mean that Peking will act while the Western Powers are devoting attention to Korea an'd Formosa.
Liupochen told the Military Affairs Commission that the People’s Army will soon, enter Tibet with the object of wiping out the British and American influence there. He said that when the country had been "liberated” Tibetans will be given regional autonomy and religious freedom. Lamaseries will be protected and the Communists will respect the existing customs.
Liu said that Tibetan Government officials will not be removed from their present posts. The Tibetan army will be, reorganised as part of the Chinese Peoples Army.
