FIRE DAMAGE WAS LIGHT IN WANGANUI DURING LAST QUARTER

Damage to city buildings and contents by fire during the quarter ended June 30 was £4229, Superintendent W. A. Brown reported to yesterday's meeting of the Wanganui Fire Board. The damage to buildings was £1427 and to contents £2802. The value of the buildings where the fires occurred was £16,205 and the value of the contents £6650. The buildings were covered by £11,540 in insurance and the contents to the extent of £5925. Superintendent Brown reported that 43 calls were received during the month. Ten were to actual fires, four to grass fires, three to chimney fires, 14 to rubbish fires, seven were Justified false alarms, four were malicious false alarms, and one call was from outside the district. “All the calls were of a m'nor nature with the exception of a fire at the Wanganui River Services," he stated. “This fire had a good hold when the brigade arrived and a passenger bus was badly damaged."
