EXCELLENT DISPLAYS BY HUNT CANDIDATES ON AWAPUNI TRACKS
1 PALMERSTON N„ Last Night (Sp) —The weather was fine for today’s semi-finals a't Awapuni and the going, though heavy in the straight, was in good order. The trestles were 50ft out from the rails. Among the horses . 'to work well were Lord Cranleigh and Special Script, Tremello, La Modelie, Lady Aurora and Bulaselle, ’ Robin Chase, and Nicene and My i Beau. i 1 Ercoupe and Manawanui, Newel Post and Gallant Bill, and Mr Thunder jumped the country and gave excellent displays of fast fencing. Among the first to work were Brightside (W. L. Aitken) and Diplomacy (O Neill). They galloped seven in 1.44, the last three well in 43. Diversio (V. J. Sellars) appeared : to be going better than Repatriation (Gunn) and Co-operate <D. Harris) at the end of a mile run in 2.1, the last 'three in 44. ' Dandy Ninth and Coppelia were , home from the six barrier in 1.27 4-5, : the last three in 44. Bulaselle (W. J. Broughton) and I Lady Aurora (G. R Tattersall) were ' going very well at the end of a mile l in 1.58 3-5. The pace was steady all i through. i Silver Line (J. Hely) and Follow ' Suit (L. Hodren) went once round and were timed home from the seven j in 1.44. I My Beau (Broughton) and Nicene ] (Tattersall) ran six in 1.25, coming home strongly in better than 43. Clever Boy (L J. Clutterbuck) and Meteorina (Whittle) worked over six furlongs, running the last three in 46. Tremello (D. Harris) was responsible for one of the best sevens of the morning. He worked really well and cut the distance cut in 1.41 3-5. i Ercoupe (M. Andrews) and Manai wanui (A. Temperton) were together all the way in a first-class school over the big fences. They started and fin- ! ished with the double brush, jumping 11 fences in all. I They were followed by Newel Post I (C. Hartley) and Gallant Bill (M. ! Thurston) in a similar trial, and both I jumped splendidly. I Mr Thunder (Thurston) was put over five steeplechase fences, includI ing the tough ones at the south end lof the course. He jumped brilliantly. I Myfox (Broughton). Silver Pal ' (Clutterbuck) and Cherbourn (J. Garth) were in that order at the end of a mile run in just over two minutes. Despot (Sellars) and Relate (Gunn) went away from the six barrier and after running the first three in 42 were home strongly to complete in 1.25 3-5. Matara worked smoothly over five ■ in 1.13. I La Modelle (Broughton) and Pieck i (Tattersall) sprinted six in 1.25, travelling fast for the first three. Country Scene (Hely) and Eureka (Clutterbuck) were kept to an even pace over six in 1.29 2-5. Beauform (T. Howe) jumped four i hurdles and then worked on the flat, i Robin Chase (Aitken) and Snowless (Thurston) were a shade in front of Christopher Wren (A. G. Waddell) at the end of a mile run in 'two minutes. Lord Cranleigh (R. D. Samsoni was just in front of Special Script (f. G. Dulieu) at the end of six furlongs after running the last five in 1.11 and the last three in 42, which was good.
