Union Refuses To Accept Resignations Of Three Officials
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA)—The executive of the Penrose branch of the Woodpulp Paper and Paper Products Union has refused to accept the resignations of three of its officials. These men, the president (Mr R. Davis), the secretary (Mr L. C. Chaillet), and a member of the executive (Mr A. L. Caulfield), tendered their resignations after the union had decided by secret ballot to remain affiliated with the Federation of Labour. Another ballot may be held. Mr J. Brennan, vice-president ot the union, said in a statement today that the three officers, at the request of national headquarters, had agreed to remain in office pending a conference of officials from three branches of the union. The validity of last week’s ballot had been questioned and a further ballot might be necessary. The executive intended to recommend that a ballot should be held among members of the three branches simultaneously.
