More Egg-Laying Contests Needed To Boost Supply

AUCKLAND, Yesterday (P.A.) More single-bird egg-laying contests in New Zealand would improve the breeds of poultry and ensure better supply of eggs. This claim was made today by Mr. G. F. Moody, of Napier, who has won two world titles in egglaying contests. He is judging at. the Onehunga poultry show. Exhibitors said there were more fowls but less eggs than ever in the Dominion because of the decline in breeding standards of birds. Answering this statement, Mr. Moody said the standard had fallen owing Io lack of competition. New Zealand had lost overseas trade because birds from flocks that included title holders were quickly sold on the export market.
