England Names 13 Cricketers From Whom Test Side Will Be Chosen
LONDON, June I. team for the first Test against West Indies beginning on Thursday next, will be chosen from Yardley (captain), W. Edrich, T. Bailey, R. Simpson, G. Doggart, L. Hutton, D. Compton, or H. Dollery, T. Evans, I. Laker, A. Bedser, W. hollies, R. Berry. One surprise is the choice of the Cambridge captain, Doggart. He and the 24-year-old Lancashire left-arm bowler, Berry, are the only two who have not previously played in a Test. Compton entered a London clinic today for observation. The decision on whether an operation will be performed on his knee will probably be made tomorrow. The English side includes five amateurs. The average age of the 13 named is 30.
England today beat The Rest in the Test trial at Bradford by an innings and 89 runs. The wicket was faster than yesterday but still took spin. In the eight and ,a-quarter hours that the match lasted 30 wickets fell for 369 runs.
