SIX WOMEN’S HOCKEY TEAMS TO PLAY AT MARTON ON SATURDAY

Three women’s hockey matches will be played in Marton on Saturday, giving local enthusiasts an opportunity! of seeing six teams in act ion, includ-1 ing the unbeaten Te Kauwau and; Swifts teams. Much interest will be taken in the game between Te Kauwau (Sanson) and Marton Athletic, in view of the latter team's fine game last week, in Which Swifts were held to a draw. Following are the fixtures, grounds and umpires:— Senior A: Athletic v. Te Kauwau, at Marton at 3 p.m. (Mesdames I. Hammond and E. Tolley); United v. Rataat Rata at 1.30 p.m. (Miss N. Hutton and Rev. E. Dyason; Swifts v. Hunterville, at Marton, 10 a.m. (Mesdames M. McLennan and Hammond); Bulls a bye. Senior B: Tuis No. 1 v. Ohakea, at Ohakea, 2.15 p.m. (Mr. G. Judd and Warrant Officer W. H. In an-1 nouncing this yesterday, the secre-i tary of the society, Mr. J. W. Gibson, said that the evening would be taken up with games, items, and a few dances, concluding with supper. Cooper, a Russian comedy, “The Proposal,” by Mr. N. V. RixTrott, and the drama, “Red and Gold” by Miss O. JJrenchley. LITTLE INTEREST SHOWN IN ROAD CYCLE CLUB. So poor was the attendance at a meeting in Marton this week to form ! a Road Cycle Club that it was de- ( cided not to go on with the project. ' Cyclists will continue to race under the supervision of the Marton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. Saturday afternoon road races will continue and in an attempt to inter-, est. younger competitors, a series of Wednesday night races are to be held. They will be for boys 15 years of age and under and will start at 5.15 p.m.races being over a four or flve-mile course. A trophy will be given the winner of each event, and in addition , a cup will be presented as a points prize at the end of the series. ‘
