Mi' and Mrs A. H. Handley, Kai Iwi, leave today for a visit to Napier. Mrs C. F. Dalgety, Wanganui, was a recent visitor to Hamilton. Mrs J. N. Death, Eltham, is visiting Wanganui and will later go on to Palmerston North. Mrs H. G. Carver, College Street, has returned after visiting Paraparaumu. Miss Adamson, of Wellington, who was the week-end guest of Mrs K. J. Taiboys, Grey Street, has returned. Miss A. Carver, College Street, has returned from a visit to Hawke’s Bay, where she stayed with Mrs Rathbone. Miss S. Norton, of the Girls’ College teaching staff, is spending the '■' al vacation at her home in Auckland. .-, s J. Mackintosh, Mrs F. Stapleton, and the Misses J. and E. Neilson (New Plymouth) left Wanganui yesterday to spend a few days’ holiday at Paraparaumu Beach. Miss Ngaire Wilson, who has been spending her annual leave from the Waikato Hospital at her home in Wanganui, returned to Hamilton yesterday. Members of the teaching staff of the Girls’ College who are spending the school holidays outside the district include Miss W. Mitchell, who is visiting Christchurch, Miss D. Bennett and Miss L. Bishop, who are holidaying in Wellington. Mrs H. M. Eley, mother of Miss Rosemary Eley, lady-in-waiting to Lady Freyberg, who has been staying at Government House with her daughter since her arrival from England early in January, left Wellington Last week on her return to Great Britain. Mrs Eleanor Glencross, known throughout New South Wales as a fighter for the housewife, died last week. Mrs Glencross was chairman of directors of the Housewives’ Association of New South Wales, and for many years fought for lower prices. Although she had been ill for a considerable time, she still attended many meetings of her association. The unexpected death occurred recently at Foxton of Mrs Justina Ursula Cosgrave, wife of Sergeant V. J. Cosgrave. She was born at HoWick, Auckland, in 1887, and resided there until her marriage in 1915. After that, by reason of her husband’s calling, she resided in various towns of the North Island, including Levin, Wellington, Hunterville, Wanganui, and Taumarunui, going to Foxton four years ago. Leaving for Australia this week is Mrs L. Thomson, who intends to see the country on a work and sightseeing plan by carrying on her nursing profession. She will stay in Australia for some time and then travel to England. She has been entertained at farewell parties given by Mrs M. E. Coull, St. John's Hill, and Mrs Jack Allen, Bignell Street. Mrs Thomson will be a passenger on the Monowai, due to sail on Friday. She left Wanganui yesterday. Card Afternoon The weekly 500 afternoon held last Thursday by the Wanganui East Croquet Club to assist club funds was j hostessed by Mrs A. E. Halligan and i Mrs A. Fowler. The winner was Mrs | W. Harris, consolation Mrs W. Miller, and mystery Mrs Drummond. Success At Competitions. Ailsa Tizard was a successful Wanganui competitor in the Palmerston North Competition Festival held last week. She gained firsts in the following: Classical barefoot dance (golden ball), classical ballet (on points), demi-character (Pollichenello); v.h.c. in the character dance (Russian), song and dance and sacred solo; h.c. in skipping and action song. She also was the winner in the junior scholarship being Ist in demicharacter dance (Pied Piper) and Ist in test dance, on points set by the judge.
