Photo-Telegram Service. The, Post Office advises that the phototelegram service has now been extended to include southern Rhodesia. Delivery Truck Removed. A delivery tx'uck belonging to Mr. L. Williams, storekeeper, Upokongaro was removed from Upokongaro on Thursday night and was found about two miles north on the Raetihi Highway, lying on its side with the lights switched on and oil running out from the engine. Regimental Reunion. The annual reunion of the Wellington Regiment of World War I will take place in Palmerston North today, and there will be a special church parade to All Saint’s Church tomorrow, where the Colours of the Regiment are in keeping. Quite a number of Wanganui members of the regiment intend being present. Javelin Throw Record A javelin throw of 170 ft. 4in. by I. Service, of Wanganui, has been confirmed by the West Coast (North Island) Centre as a junior centre record. The New Zealand junior record is 175 ft. 33in., but unfortunately Service will have to compete in the senior ranks next season. He started throwing the javelin in the 1948-49 season. Increased Membership. Membership of the Wanganui Section of the New Zealand Public Service Association had increased from 398 to 439, stated the president, Mr. E. A. Maxwell, in his annual report, adopted at the annual meeting last night. He added that the Waimarino and Taihape sub-sections had been revived, as a result of committee members visiting these centres early in March. The sub-sections had lapsed as a result of transfers, but were functioning again and played an important part in these outlying districts. Number Of Telephones. New Zealand .ranks fourth equal with Switzerland in the number of telephones a hundred of population, according to the Post Office. Percentages are: —U.S.A., 26.1; Sweden, 2.1; Canada, 18.8; New Zealand and Switzerland, 17.2. In its campaign to increase the standard of day-to-day telephone usage the New Zealand Post Office has in the last 12 months shown the film “Telephone Courtesy’ ’to some 50,000 people. Car Collides With Truck. Head injuries were suffered by Mr. D. Haddon Strachan, of Moana Street, when a car he was driving came into collision with a truck loaded with gravel near Sparrow Cliff, Upokongaro, early yesterday afternoon. The truck, which was turning out of Kaimatira Road, struck the car almost head-on and rammed it into the cliff. The front portion of the car was extensively damaged. Mr. Strachan was taken to the Wanganui Hospital by ambulance and was treated as an outpatient.

Exchange of Young Farmers The New Zealand Dairy Board has approved in principle the organisation of a scheme for exchanging four young farmers from New Zealand annually with four young farmers from the United States. The New Zealand farmers will be chosen for their knowledge of the industry, knowledge of improved dairying methods, ability to speak, and general leadership qualities. They will be given free transport to America, and the Department of Agriculture in the United States has agreed to accept all responsibility for them during the si ■ ’o eight months they would be in that country.
