LABOUR FEDERATION MAKES DECISIONS ON TAXATION

i WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA) The Federation of Labour will ask i the Government to introduce a payI as-you-earn system of income tax nav- ■ ments.

This decision was made at the an- ■ nual conference today. The conference will also ask that ! personal exemption for income tax purpose be £3OO a year, that the prei sent tax rebate of £lO be increased to i £2O, and that exemption for each child I should be £75 a year, this exemption j to cover children up to the age of 18. I The conference took no action on I a remit from the Amalgamated Soi ciety of Railway Servants proposing support for an abplition of the wages [tax and a policy of further taxation of i the upper income group (including companies) to make up the deficit.

I On the recommendation of Auckland | Paper Mills Workers' Union, it was i decided to ask tfyat in view of the Government's recent action in grantci ing farmers income tax allowance or , exemption for dally newspapers, simii lar rights should be granted to work- | ers and also in respect of transport fares to and from work. ; The Federation will ask that the ; sales tax be removed from workers' tools of trade. The Federation will ask that every woman, on the birth of a child, be I paid £l5. The Federation will also I recommend that the allowance under . social security for old age pensioners j and widows with children be inI creased.
