HUNGER-STRIKING INDIAN PETITIONS KING FOR HIS PEOPLE
OTTAWA, April 20 (Recd. 6 pm).—Jules* Sioui, a 43-year-old Huron Indian, who has been on hunger strike nearly two months, said today that he had petitioned King George to intervene in the case of Canadian Indians to end their “slavery.”
Sioui, who began a hunger strike on February 22, in an attempt to secure (recognition of rights he claims for Indians, said he had written to the King because the Prime Minister, Mr. Louis St. Laurent, had paid no attention to him. Sioui said his fast had been broken only by a pint of sweetened water each day.
