Liberal Party Chooses Indian Prince As Election Candidate
LONDON, Dec 15 (Recd 6 pm).— An Indian Prince has been chosen by the Liberal Party as candidate at the forthcoming general election. He is a wealthy Sirdar, K. S. B. Ahluwalia, a. member of the Royal House of the State of Kapurthala in eastern Punjab. He owns steamship Avian and trading companies. He will stand in the working class London suburb of Willesden.
Ahluwalia is a bearded Sikh aged 46 and is a newcomer to politics. He arrived in Britain 10 years ago when war broke out, and stayed on to direct the Government’s Seamens Welfare Service for Allied merchant seamen in India ports. As a young man he was in the British Merchant Marine. He is a fellow of the Royal Economics Society and of the Royal Empire Society.—Special N.Z.P.A. Correspondent.
