Old Piers Demolished.
The piers of the old railroad bridge across the Whangaehu River had been demolished in a very satisfactory way and the Railways Department should be thanked for its efforts, said Mr L. A. Mackintosh (Whangaehu) at the (monthly meeting in Marton yesierday ’of the Rangitikei Catchment Board. I “They have also removed the centre pier of the dismantled railway bridge across the Turakina River, even ■ though we did not ask that this should |be done,” Mr. Mackintosh added, i “With the two bridges gone, however. | the position is now very satisfactory. I There was a danger of erosion which ' might have grown had action not been taken.” The board decided to write a | letter of thanks to the department.
