Rangitikei River Only Major Work Being Undertaken At Present
MARTON, Last Night (S.R.)—Until classification of the Rangitikei River ( scheme was completed, the Rangitikei Catchment Board was not prepared to undertake any other major work, slated the chairman, Mr. K. A. Williams (Marton) in his annual report to the board. “It is the board’s intention to devote its attention to other major problems at the conclusion of the Rangitikei River classification scheme. “However, urgent work not of a major character will always be attended to as it arises,” the chairman added. The Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council had made a free grant of £4OOO to the board for general works, publicity, and hydrological purposes. By the end of this year the board had not had an opportunity of formulating a policy or deciding on methods for employment of this grant. “Such of this grant as is available for works, together with the contribution from property owners, will be subsidisable,’' the chairman stated. “Thus a considerable sum of money will be available to the board for expansion of its operations.” j
