Superannuitants Want Social Security Tax Relief From Govt.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night (PAY —Protesting at. the payment of Is fid in the fl social security tax, Taranaki « superannuitants are to take the first opportunity of approaching the Prims Minister (Mr Holland). “We feel we have a real grievance and I have no doubt he will give sympathetic consideration to our request for some relief,” said Mr C. F. Waters at a meeting of Post and Telegraplj Department superannuitants at NeMf Plymouth today. Criticising the attitude of the former Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) toward representations made to him on many occasions by the Superannuitants' Association at Wellington, MB Waters said Mr Nash had given little attention to the matter. “Mr Nash told the executive he could not exempt one section of the community, but he forgot that while he wad taking tax from us he was debarring us from the age benefit.” It was a subject, he declared, which concerned not only superannuitants but all per* s ns still in the Government service.
