Shipping Transfer Report Is Denied
LONDON, Dec. 13.—Shipping officials deny that the liners Orcades, Him - laya and Stratheden will be taken off the England-Australian run for six months next year to earn dollars, as announced by the “Sydney Daily Telegraph ’ yesterday. Sir Leslie Morshead, general manager of the Orient. Steam Navigation Company, said that the Orcades would maintain her scheduled programme She was scheduled for overhaul aftci her next visit to Australia, and when the overhaul was completed migh;. make a cruise of one week's duration to enable her to take up a more advantageous position on the sailing schedule of the Orient fleet. There was no question of her cruising to America or taking part in the transAtlantic trade. Mr. G. R. Rickards, senior partnei, said the Himalaya and Stratheden were not likely to miss more than oiK visit to Australia. The Himalaya might make a cruise next year to the South Atlantic, but this was only to save her running to Australia half empty during the off season. No advice had been received that these vessels were to be diverted to dollarearning, but possibly the company had been in touch with the British Ministry of Supply about their diversion.
