HOUSING AS PRIORITY OVER IMMIGRATION, SAYS PRIME MINISTER
WELLINGTON, Last Night <PA).~ / “We want to press ahead with im- T migration, but we are determined to make the housing of our own people the first priority. However, where immigrants can be housed without impinging on the housing requirements of our own people, then they cannot come fast enough," said the Prime Minister (Mr. Holland).
“Our policy envisaged considerable expansion in rural housing, which will have the double-barrelled effect of taking workers into the country and releasing town housing for occupation by others. That will assist our policy of increasing production. Better housing conditions in the country are essential to attract more workers into primary industries."
