Taihape Cricket

Competition cricket was resumed on Saturday, when the final series in the first round saw Mangaweka secure an outright win over Navy and move into the lead in the competition, followed one point behind, by Taihape, who obtained a n easy first innings win over Colts. Feature of the day's play was the century by A. Hamilton for Taihape. For the most part, however, scores were low and bowlers returned good figures. MANGAWEKA v NAVY Navy batted first but collapsed against the Mangaweka attack, Barken being the only batsman to reach double figures. The last wicket fell at 46, R. Requiring 30 runs to win Mangaweka lost three wickets in knocking them off. TAIHAPE v COLTS Taihape suffered a bad start against Colts losing three wickets for 15. A fifth wicket stand worth 89 runs between Hamilton and George provided the turning point in the innings. After a bright and sound display George was out for 49, when Hamilton took charge of the scoring and went on to reach his century, at which stage the innings was declared closed with 192 runs on for the cost of seven wickets. Shaw bore the brunt of the attack and fully deserved his 5 wickets. Colts collapsed against accurate bowling from Woohead and Ashenden each of whom obtained four wickets at low cost.
