TAIHAPE NEWS

SCHOOL AFFAIRS Because of the pending demolition of the headmaster's old residence, which is at present, used by the commercial class, and the addition o£ one teacher to the staff next year, the Taihape District High School is faced with a shortage of accommodation. This is causing 'the school committee considerable anxiety. The matter was discussed at Monday’s monthly meeting when various suggestions of alternative accommodation received consideration. An inspection of the’ Methodist. Hall was made at the conclusion of the meeting. A tinal decision has not yet been reached and it is probable that further inspections of likely premises will be carried out in an effort to solve the difficulty. The chairman, Mr. F. Reece, presided. Also present were Messrs. A. MGordon, A. Gregory, J. O. C. Anderson (secretary) and the headmaster, Mr. C. A. Young. HEADMASTER’S REPORT The headmaster’s monthly report read as follows: “The rolls are: Secondary 103, Primary 420. The percentages of attendance are 92 and 93 respectively. “During the period under review the school has been visited by Mr. Bradley, departmental inspector, and by the Vocational Guidance officers Miss Reid and Mr. Tigge. Mr. S. L. Wilson, woodwork instructor, will be resigning at the end of the year to take up an appointment at Opotiki. There will be no other changes on the staff. “Accommodation will have to be secured for two classes next year—one to replace the old school residence and the other for the additional teacher to be appointed. The prize-giving ceremony will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 2.30 p.m.” The report was adopted. The following visiting committee was appointed: Messrs. F. Reece and J. Bardell. The matter of making arrangements with the Rangitikei A. and P. Association regarding the use of the school buildings on the occasion of the annual show was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. The success of the school ice cream stall at the show was mentioned and it was hoped to obtain an additional stall this time.
