SERVICEMEN TAKE OVER LONDON POWER STATIONS; MEN ON STRIKE
LONDON, Dec. 13 (Recd. 6 p.m.!— Troops and naval ratings were drafted into three London power stations last night when 1300 manual workers went on strike because of alleged wage anomalies. The strike is not supported by the men’s trade unions. The news that servicemen would be used was given by the Labour Minister, Mr. Isaacs, in the House of Commons, a few hours after the strike started, and support for the Government’s action was expressed for the Opposition by Mr. Oliver Stanley. The men, Mr. Isaacs said, came out without notice and in breach of contract. Draughtsmen, accountants, and technicians had volunteered to keep the stations going until service help arrived. There was no opposition from the strikers as servicemen, fully trained in power station work, marched in.
