Trophies Presented At Chess And Draughts Club
In the absence of Mr. A. J. Ratliff, Mr. A. P. Whitlock presented trophies at the presentation night of the Wanganui Chess and Draughts Club. Trophy winners were:— Silver King and Lapel Shield for club chess champion: Mr. N. M. Cromarty; Silver Cup and Lapel Shield for club draughts champion: Mr. P. Prince. Handicap draughts tournament: Mr. P. King 1, Messrs. A. J. Ratliff and F. Prince equal 2. The winner of the B grade chess event has not yet been found. All tournaments were very keenly contested and the runners-up for the chess (Mr. Whitlock) and the draughts (Mr. Williams) lost by only i and one point, respectively. Play in both events was of a very high standard. Both club champions retain their titles and also come well up in the New Zealand class in congress play this year. Results of the presentation match were as follows (Mr. Cromarty’s team given first):— Cromarty 1, v. Whitlock 0; Smith 0 y. Kiley 1; Williams i, v. P. Prince S; Mrs. Reilly 1, v. Lythe 0; Morris i, v. G. Prince i; F. Prince 1, v. King 0; Harr 1, v. Donald 0; Cutelli 0, v. Lawless 1. Mr. Cromarty’s team won by 5 to 3.
