Anti-Sub Minesweeper Of N.Z. Navy Paid-Off
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— The anti-submarine minesweeper Kiwi, which has been used by the Royal New Zealand Navy as a train*ng vessel, is being paid-off into the reserve because of the manning requirements of larger ships in commission and the limited number of seamen which Kiwi can accommodate for seagoing instructions. Her continued use is not at present justified. Kiwi’s crew is being drafted to >ther ships and establishments. When ammunition stores and equipment are removed she will be laid up. Future sea training for long-service -atings reservists and the men who will be called up under the national service scheme in April next will 'robably be undertaken the ■ miser Bellona and the frigates of the New Zealand Squadron.
