Timaru Watersiders’ Delegate Said To Have Been Suspended
TIMARU, Last Night (P.A.)—lt is stated on reliable authority that Mr. P. H. Weith, Timaru delegate to the biennial conference of the national executive of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, held last week, was suspended. The motion was put at the beginning of the conference and had the effect of shutting out Mr. Weith from all the deliberations of the executive. A statement was sought from Mr. Weith yesterday but he refused to comment.
It is believed, however, that the measure was a retaliatory one and was aimed at the Timaru branch, which did not align itself with the other branches during the time when the union sought to abolish overtime. As far as is known the Timaru branch did not break any of the rules of the union, and that the action of the executive in suspending Mr. Weith was not justified.
