NO SALES TAX ON WORKSAVING APPLIANCES PROMISES MR. HOLLAND
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA). "You can be sure that sales tax will be lifted from ail work-saving appliances used in the home,” replied the Prime Minister-elect (Mr. Holland) to a questioner at a press conferencce tonight. Mr. Holland added that legislation would be required before sales tax could be lifted and that that legislation would be brought down during the next session of Parliament. Mr. Holland said he was going to have a very good look at the whole financial setup in New Zealand so as to inform himself of its widespread ramifications.
“It would be very unwise to deal piecemeal with such an important subject as finance.” he continued, “and I have already set In motion plans to enable, me to make this surrey. I have had discussions with the heads of departments on the financial side I have asked them to prepare material and reports to assist u me in this survey.”
