Emergency Flight To Save Indian Woman
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— An emergency flight to the island of Tavenui, some 130 miles from Suva, was made by a Catalina of No. 5 Squadron, Royal New Zealand Air Force, when word was received from the Health Department at Suva that an Indian woman was in danger of losing her life from wounds inflicted by a cane knife.
The Catalina, captained by Pilot D. B. Flintoff, of Christchurch, immediately put into the air, landing at Wailevu just over an hour after the takeoff. A quick return flight was made and the woman rushed to hospital. This is another example of the usefulness of the R.N.Z.A.F. air-sea Rescue Squadron to isolated residents in the Fiji group.
