WILL PRICES RISE AFTER ELECTION?

Information he had received over the past two days indicated that price increases for certain commodities would take place shortly after the election, and that lhe Price Tribunal had already agreed to these increases, but was witholding the information in the meantime, declared Mr. W. A. Sheat, National candidate for Patea, speaking in the Gonville Town Hall last night.

Mr. Sheat said that his information came from a man who was closely associated with the Price Tribunal and the commodities in question. If this were correct, it would appear that the information was being deliberately withheld by the Price Tribunal till after November 30.

“If that is so, it involves political trickery which the people will resent,” Mr. Sheat added. If no such arrangements had been entered into between the Government and the Price Tribunal, the Government could issue a denial and there would he no suggestion of its being bowled out. “But the matter Is so serious that we should ask the Minister concerned for a statement and an assurance that political pressure is not being brought to bear on the Price Tribunal,” said Mr. Sheat.
