Waggons Derailed North Of Auckland
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).Eight wagons of a goods train were derailed between Pokapu and Opahi. about 150 miles north of Auckland, at 8.0 tonight. Only one wagon was seriously damaged, but the track was ripped up for a considerable distance. It is believed an axle on one of the trucks in the middle of the tram broke. The remainder of the 27 wagons held to the rails. Five of the derailed wagons were loaded with frozen meat. The derailment is expected to cause a fair amount of disruption to northern train services tomorrow. It may be late tonight before the track is restored Passengers on the expresses will probably bo transferred to buses to travel round the affected section.
