Apprentice Jockey Fatally Injured

CHRISTCHURCH, Last. Night (P.A.) William McLean, apprentice jockey, I aged 19, died in Christchurch Public | Hospital at 12.45 p.m. today, one hour after he was admitted with injuries suffered in a fall from Balkes 'near the five furlongs post during the running of the open seven furlongs sprint at the race trials held at Riccarton during the morning. McLean was apprenticed to the Riccarton trainer V. A. Lee. Balkis apparently slipped and crashed.
