GOLF CLOSING
The Taihape Golf Club’s links al Raukura were ollicial-y closed on Sunday for the 1949 season. A mixed foursome over 12 holes was played, the winners being Mrs. D. Collins and H. Wehipeihana. Approaching competitions for men . and ladies were held, the winners being B. Collerton (men) and Mrs. McKee (ladies). The ladies’ putting was won by Mrs. Q. Collins and the men’s j putting saw H. Collins and R. McClure. Open eclectic, C. Mortlana. The oflicial closing ceremony was performed by the president, Mr. S- D. Kirkpatrick, who thanked the club captain (Mr. C. Mortland). the. captain of the Ladies’ Club (Miss C. Bradley), the secretary (Mr. J. H. Little), the secretary of the Ladies' Golf Club (Mrs. D. McKee), the men’s committee and Messrs A. H. McGinniss and F. Spooney and all others who had assisted the club in any way during the past season. The president explained that the links would be kept in comparatively good order during the summer months for the benet of those wishing to play in the “off season.’’ A special presentation was made to Mr. A. H. McGinniss in recognition and appreciation of his work for the club. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Several visitors were present for the closing day celebrations, which were a marked success in every way.
