TAIHAPE CRICKET

Scores On The Opening Day In the opening series of cricket matches Taihape and Country secured wins on the first, innings. Highlight of the day's play was N. Ashenden’s century, which carried his team to victory against last, year’s champion team. W. Bailey (Navy) leached the half-century, while J. Marshall was just short of that total. High scores for the most part were not the order of the day, and bowlers generally called the tune. The best, bowling performance was registered by the youthful Brian McConachie, whose five wickets brought about a collapse in the Navy innings just when it appeared that the match might go to a close finish. Scores:— Taihape 180 for 7 (declared) won on the first innings from Mangaweka 75 and 32 for two. Country 145 and 44 for 6, won on the first innings from Navy 103. Honours Board.
