Hawkestone Golf Club Farewells Mr. K. Fowler On Closing Day

There were many visitors present at the Hawkestone Golf Club's official closing day ceremony held on Saturday. A Canadian foursome stroke competition, over 18 holes, was held and the winners were Mrs Collis and K. Witford with a nett 61. A chocolate competition was won by Miss Toni North. During the afternoon tea interval Mr E. C. Fogelberg spoke of the forthcoming departure of Mr K. H. Fowler, one of the stalwarts of the club. Mr Fowler would be greatly missed by the club, said Mr Fogelberg. Through the years he (Mr Fowler) had held almost every position until finally he was elected president—a position he held today. Mr Fowler had worked hard for the club, and in appreciation of these services the members felt they could not allow Mr and Mrs Fowler to depart without showing some recognition. On behalf of the club Mr Fogelberg said he had very much pleasure asking Mr and Mrs Fowler to accept a fireside chair and cushion, and a smaller chair for their son John. He wished Mr and Mrs Fowler many years of happiness in their new home at Tauranga. In replying, Mr Fowler thanked the members for their generous gifts and assured them that he had enjoyed being a member of the Hawkestone Club. Whatever position he had held he had derived considerable enjoyment from it, and would always retain very many happy memories of Hawkestone. He paid a tribute to the efforts of the ladies who, with dances and competitions, had helped considerably the financial side of the club.
