Putiki Table Tennis Club’s Closing
The closing night of the Putiki Table Tennis Club was held in the Tuhirangi Hall recently. Tournaments for the Te Patu Challenge Cup, donated by R. Perepe, and men’s and women’s singles buttorts, donated by Mr. Tenga Takarangi, were held. The [trophy for the most improved woman player, donated by D. Paranihi, was won by T. Phillipps. J. Waitai’s trophy for the most improved man player was won by A. Murray. More than 40 players, including a number of visitors, were present- and a good standard of play was seen, with many closely contested games. Results were:— Women’s singles: Final, K. Metekingi beat A. Lueben 31-29. Men’s singles: N. Metekingi beat J. Waitai 31-27. Challenge cup: M. Te Patu and B. Korowhiti beat D. Tonga and T. Teira 31-29. After supper, the president (Mr. Rangi Metekingi) congratulated the winners and thanked the senior officers of the club. N. Metekingi, D. Te Patu, and B. Korowhiti for their work during the season. In his reply the club captain (N. Metekingi) thanked members for their co-opera-tion throughout the season.
