REMEMBER THE DAYS?
DEMEMBER the days back in 1939 when, in his Budget speech, 1 !"'■ Mr. Savage, the Labour Prime Minister of New Zealand, said: “It must be clear to anybody who studies the position that we are not suffering from a shortage of money in New Zealand but from a shortage of what money will buy.” Then the currency and credit totalled £5(l millions. At March 31, 1949, it was £213 millions. What would Mr. Savage have said to such a development? Probably he would have said: “The increase in money has brought about aii increase in prices, demanding an increase in wages and other incomes.” That is just what the Nationalists are saying now and Mr. Fraser has no to offer.
