United v. Marist
United had an early set sack, when j McCawe was run out due to a mis- | understanding with Weoby. Twa w:ck- | ets were down for 40 at this stage and ; Webby was dismissed without further I addition to the score. Condliffe was i dropped before he had scored. This was probably the turning point of the game, for none of the remaining batsmen, with the exception of Felts, scored mor e than one run. Condliffgs 24 does not appear a big score numerically, but under the circumstances and the conditions, it was a grand knock. Condliffe invariably comes to light when his team is in a bad position. I Beard gave another good bowling performance for his team. He varied his pace and moved the ball fiom leg to the off dangerously. He clean bowled Stent and Dustin in the same oyer with excellent deliveries. The Marist fielding was pot up to the usual good standard. Requiring 65 runs for an outright win, the Marist players and supp« l- | ers were naturally confident. Whe-i I Beard was caught and bowled by Felts the score for 3 for 23 The mam hope I of the side, Nimmo, was dismissed without scoring, and from this stage onwards the side never looked in a winning position. The fourth, fifth and sixth wicket fel l with, the scoreboard showing 40, and of these Dow had scored 33 (including seven 4’s). Dow always attacks the bowling regardless of the state of toe game. He plays most of his shots in the air ahd is not frightened to take the risks. His innings was the only bright feature of the Marist batting. He scored 33, the remainder scored 18. Poananga and Felts bowled unchanged. The former’s analysis was 9.5 overs, 3 maidens, 26 runs, 5 wickets. Felts bowled 9 overs. 3 maidens and took 5 wickets for 25. Both did an excellent job for their team. They attacked the stumps, kept a good length and deserved their success United are to be congratulated on their win. Until half-way througn the Marist second innings they appeared to be in a losing position. However, the bowlers, assisted by gyod field placing, never let up. It was a good start by last season’s wooden-spocn holders, and it was a good start for their new captain, W. H. Dustin. Details:— UNITED. First Innings 163 Second Innings. B. Poananga, b Head 6 D.
