Big Diversion Of Two Rivers By Russia
BERLIN, Nov 5 (Rec. 6 pm).— The Soviet Union was using atomic energy to blast a channel between two mountain ranges to change the direction of two Siberian rivers, the Soviet-licensed newspaper, “Nacht Express,” said today. It added: “The world now’ has the explanation for the Soviet declaration of September 25 about the atom explosion.” The paper gave no source for its report, but hitherto no Soviet-licensed newspaper in Germany has carried a story from the Soviet Union that has not been from official Russian sources. The newspaper added that a great plan, which proposes to reverse the flow of the Ob and the Yenesei Rivers foresees blasting a path through the Ural and Kazak Mountains by means of atomic energy. The purpose of the plan is to water a dry area between the Araj and Caspian Seas, by which means 30,000,000 hectares of extra land could be cultivated and 82,000,000,000 kilowatt hours of electricity be produced.—Reuter.
