REMEMBRANCE DAY WAS OBSERVED WITH TWO-MINUTE SILENCE
Remembrance Day was commemorated n Wan■••.anui yesterday by tho observance of two minutes’ silence at 11 a.m., the time at which the armistice which prefaced the end of World War 1 was signed on November IL A wreath was laid on the Cenotoph m Cook’s Gardens yesterday by the president of the Wanganui Returned Ser vices Association. Mr. H. R. Gilberd. Special services to mark the observance of Remembrance Day were hold in several city churches yesterday.
Remembrance Day superseded Armistice Day during the course of World War 11. Tho flrebell in Cook’s Gardens was tolled during the observance of the period of silence. Traffic was stopped during the silence end the radio station went off the ail.
