Mrs. Seivewright Is Appointed To N.Z. Fashion Council

Mrs. Eleanor Seivewright, of Wanganui, has been appointed to the Fashion Council of New Zealand as its only woman member. A comparatively new organisation, the Fashion Council was originally set up in conjunction with the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation and the New Zealand Retailers’ Federation and is composed of.three representatives of each. * Mrs. Seivewright will be a retailers’ representative, with Mr. J. Milne, of Auckland, and Mr. J. W. Yates, of Wellington and formerly of Wanganui. Her appointment to the council follows another important role in the field of fashion which she fulfilled earlier this year—that of wardrobe selector for Miss Mary Woodward, “Miss New Zealand.” It is the Fashion Council's function, as its name implies, to discuss style trends and fashion angles and to decide what types of garments will be made in New Zealand. With world contacts in France, England and the United States, whose designers send out advanced patterns of 18 months ahead, the council members confer on overseas styles and their interpretation for the women of New Zealand.
