SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. In London there is a group of talented young New Zea lenders growing in number and recognition every day. The dancing world has claimed many from the Dominion over the last few years. The latest of Wellington’s ballerinas to step on the first _rung of the success ladder in Englisfi ballet is Doreen Brown. This 17-year-old dancer was one of the Wellingtonians chosen by Madam? Rambert to tour with her company in New Zealand in 1948. She left Wellington last August for further study m England and now has been chosen for Sadler’s Wells school of ballet in gicup A, from which the dancers for Ihe ballet are drawn. New Zealand dancers who have gone on tour with the Sadler’s Wells are Alexander Grant (Wellington), Bryan Asfibridge and Rowena Jackson (both of Auckland). Don McAlpine, another New Zealander, who won a Royal Academy scholarship last year, is appearing with the second company. Among others who are achieving success in musical comedy dancing are Yvonne Carter, Tom Martin (who is dancing at the Windmill Theatre), and Ralph Wilkin (appearing in “Brigadoon Colleen Edmonds, a Wellington friend of Doreen’s, is studying at the Rambert School.
