CRUISER AJAX IS BEING SCRAPPED

LONDON, Nov 4 (Recd 8 pm).— Scrapping will begin next week of the 6985-ton Ajax, the last survivor of the Royal Navy’s three cruisers which destroyed the German pocket battleship Graf Spee, in the historic River Plate action in December, 1939. Mr. Dugdale, Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, recently announced in the House of Commons that she wdtld be broken up. With the Ajax in the River Plate action were the Achilles (New Zealand), which was transferred to India last year and is now the Jelhi, and the Exeter, which was sunk during the Battle of the Java Sea in 1942.

When it was suggested last year that the Ajax would be sold to the Chilean Government, there was an immediate public outcry.
