OPENING DAY CRICKET MATCHES TO CONCLUDE TOMORROW. With one game already linished and another expected to last not much longer than an hour, there will be only one game to interest spectators when the second and final day's play of the opening series of matches under the control of the Rangitikei Cricket Association concludes tomorrow. Marton have a stiff hurdle in front of them in the match' against Old Boys. With five wickets in hand, Marton still require 32 runs to avert an innings defeat. Old Boys made 147 in the first innings, and Marton 59. When stumps were drawn last week, Marton had lost five wickets for 54 runs, in the second innings. As last year's champions, Porewa, could secure only a small lead ot three runs over Suburbs on the first innings, a highly interesting finish is expected tomorrow. Porewa made 83 and Suburbs replied with 80, on the first day’s play. One day’s play was sufficient to obtain a decision in the HuntervilleHigh School game last week. Hunterville made 127 for three wickets declared’ and High School were all out. for 55 and 40, giving Hunterville a victory by an innings and 32 runs. FIRST OLD BOYS’ DAY HELD AT HUNTLEY SCHOOL. The Huntley School Old Boys’ Associatoin held their first “Old Boys’ Day” at Huntley on Wednesday. There was an attendance of about 30 old boys and the programme included a pick-handle cricket match, a short chapel service and a special luncheon. This was followed by the annual meeting, and a very successful day wound up with a tug-o-war, Old Boys v the School. This was won by the school by two pulls to one with the aid of a little surreptitious help from the onlookers. Sixteen comprised the school team and eight the Old Boys' but, unnoticed, the school team increased to 22 for the third puli! At the annual meeting it was decided that in future the Old Boys’ Day should be held annually in the first term and next year it will be held on the first Wednesday in March. The Jubilee Memorial Fund is to come under the jurisdiction of the Old Boys’ Association and the Parents’ Association, after the latter organisation has held its general meeting on November 19. The meeting stood in silence in memory of Rev. W. E. Drinkwater, an ex-master of the school, well-known respected by Old Boys of the older generation. He died several months ago in England.
