Mrs. A. K. Fyson, of Hawera, spent the week-end at Rapanui.

i Mrs. W. Murdock, Wanganui, has been visiting Mrs. W. McMurray, Whakaronga. Mrs. S. Barton and Mrs. C. M. Orton, who have been visiting Wellington for the races, have returned to Wanganui. Mrs. J. G. McLean, formerly of Wanganui, and now of Wellington, has been visiting her old home town. Mrs. P. A. O’Neill, Ingestre Street, returned yesterday from Wellington, where she attended the race meetings. Mrs. G. C. Glenn, Victoria Avenue, has returned from Wellington, which she visited for the racing season at Trentham. Mrs. Gordon Cathro, who arrived on Thursday at Napier by the Rakaia from Wales, is at present the guest or her mother-in-law, Mrs. T. C. Cathro, Leamington Street, Gonville. She and her husband intend making their home in Wanganui. A party of 31 members of the Oroua Downs Women’s Institute, Manawatu, came to Wanganui by bus yesterday. During the morning they visited the Woollen Mills and alter lunch they were shown over the Llama Wool factory. Miss Pamela Paterson, Director of the New Zealand Junior Red Cross, arrived in Wanganui and addressed members of th e society from the various schools, loday she leaves for New Plymouth to atend the Dominion conference of the Red Cross. During her stay in Wanganui Miss Paterson was the guest oi Miss H. Wilton, Toro Street, Durie Hill. Mrs. Patricia McKenzie, of Hawera, adjudicator for the Wanganui Federation of Women’s Institute Drama Festival which opened at Kaitoke on Saturday night, nas left by plane for Christchurcn to judge the A grade festival of the British Drama League which concludes tonight. She will return to Wanganui to adjudicate at the final night oi the W.l. festival to be held at Westmere on Saturday night next, when the winners of the plays will be announced.

Miss Nancy Martin, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs, J. F. Martin, of Castlecliff, will give an address from the BBC tonight which will b e heard from 2YA. Granted a British Council scholarship to do research in music for schoois, Miss Martin has been taking a course at the London University for the past year, visiting England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. She will speak on music in schools, from infant to secondary work. Formerly first assistant at SolwayCollege and also head music director, Miss Martin is a trained singer ana plays both the piano and 'cello. She taught lor a brief period at the Wanganui Girls’ College. A meeting ol me Dominion Council of Women s Institutes to be held in Wellington tomorrow and Thursday will be formerly opened by Her Excellency, Lady Freyberg. Mrs. Hripper who will represent Wanganui at the meeting, leaves today for Wellington. Red Cross Delegates. The New Zealand Red Cross Society will hold its 1949 conference at Hawera this week, commencing on Wednesday. Representatives -from 32 centres will attend. Delegates from Wanganui are Mrs- A. E. Gould, chairman of the executive, Mrs. Mrs. G. Edwards, a vice-president, Mr. R. L. Garden, secretary of the Wanganui Red Cross Centre, will also attend. They will journey to Hawera this afternoon by train. At a reception to be held for delegates and observers Miss H. I. Crooke, Wellington, direc-tor-general of Voluntary Aid Detachments will be presented with the Florence Nightingale Medal, one of the highest honors of the nursing profession, and Mrs. H. V. S. Griffiths, of -New Plymouth, will be presented with the Cadge of a councillor of honour.
