PEOPLE FLEEING FROM ISLAND VOLCANO
LONDON, July 23 (Recd 6 pm). —Herded into a few safe places left to them, inhabitants of Santa Cruz, on Las Palmas, fai the Canaries, are watching a four cratered volcano slowly destroy their island, says the “Sunday Express.’ Eruptions are getting worse, earthquakes are continually shaking the island, paths and trails leading to sale spots are jammed with lleeing people, whose homes are buried in cinders. Many of the wells on which the island relies entirely for water arc tilled with lava and earthquakes are gradually tilling in the remainder.
