Miss M. O’Leary Leading In Wanganui East Section Of Queen Carnival
In the Wanganui East section of the Catholic Queen Carnival, launched to raise funds for schools in the city and suburbs, Miss Mary O'Leary is'leading with 12,949 votes. There are three other candidates and the one who secures the highest number of votes by Wednesday night will represent Wanganui East in the Queen Carnival. Other Wanganui East placings, up to last night, were: Miss Marie Bellringer, 9357 votes; Miss Mary Bousfieid, 9149 votes; Miss Mavis Edmonds 8029 votes. The present effort in Wanganui East is in the nature of an elimination contest to select the queen candidate. So great was the interest taken when the carnival was launched that four nominations were received. The successful candidate for Wanganui East will be announced at a gathering in St. Joseph’s Hall on Wednesday night.
