Boxer Stevens Defeats Cahill On Points Decision
PALMERSTON N., La.:t Nght (PA) —Scoring decisively in a strong twofisted attack, Syd Stevens 9.2, defeated Archie Cahill (Christchurch) 9.0, on points, in a ten-round lightweight professional boxing contest tonight. Cahill had difficulty in penetrating the longer reach of his opponent and at no stage appeared 'confident or carried the fight. He was niost dangerous with short left jabs and strong body punching, and in-fighting, but Stevens,* showing marked improvement in footwork, and punching much more cleanly than on his last appearance in the ring, varied his attack, first leading with a left and following up with right crosses. Then seeking an opening with his right and following up with left hooks.
