Despite a wet night, there were very few empty seats in the Marton Civic Theatre on Monday night, when the curtains parted for “All in Favour Say ‘Aye’ ’ the opening number on Barton’s Follies variety show. The talent offered under slick stage management —vaudeville specialists, jugglers, comedians, instrumentalists and a trim little ballet—left little to be desired in this form of quick-moving entertainment.

„_ndy, the eccentric musical clown, making his third appearance in Marton, has lost none of his appeal. He again produced music from bottles and gloves, while he also had a series of horns in a baggy suit-coat which, when squeezed, emitted a well-known tune. The highlight of his act was the ‘playing of the sleigh bells, at the end of which there was thunderous applause. He very obligingly came back for a recall, but the audience was still reluctant to let him depart. Described as “curvacious and clever," Clarissa did not disappoint with her contortions. The Three Flying Kilroys was another specialty act which earned a loud ovation. Their acts of daring kept the audience silent and tense in their seats with higiilydangerous balancing feats a feature. The thre e comedians in the show— Willie Berrigan, Hal Lepnon and Buddy Morley—(the last mentioned also a vocalist and impressionist of some note) kept the crowd in good humour with their party. They were ably supported in the short sketches by Vai Jellay, the female vocalist oi the show, Bonnie Barton and Jerry Keogh. The last named was also good as a tap dancer. The Follies girls, led by Vai Jellay, were always on hand to smarten the action with their well-timed dance movements and colourful costuming. NATIONAL PARTY BRANCH FORMED AT WHANGAEHL. A unanimous decision to fo; I a branch of the National Partj in vVhsngaehu was made at a representative meeting of supporters held at Whangaehu on Monday night. Mr. A. N. F. Bignell was elected chairman or the new branch and Mr. A. P. Anaerson secretary, together with a (strong committee. The meeting also decided to hold a National Party social function at Whangaehu in the near future and a social committee was formed to complete arrangements. Mr. H. G. Mills, party organiser, and Mr. E. B. Gordon, M.P. for Rang > ,ei. were present at the meeting, Mr. Gordon giving an interesting address on current political topics and National Party affairs. On the motion of the chairman, Mr Gordon was accorded a vote of thaiLcs and confidence. At the conclusion of the meeting a delightful supper was served by Mrs L. A. Mackintosh. On the motion of Mr. Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. Macintosh were accorded a hearty vote of thanks lor their hospitality.
