Higher Death Rate In England And Wales
LONDON. May 30. Official statistics for England and Wales, published today, showed that 26,537 more civilians died in 1947 than in 194 G. The death-rate was 12.3 per 1000 of the civilian population- compared with 12 in the previous year. The average for ten years preceding the war is
12.1. Deaths due to diseases of the coronary arteries and angina pectoris showed an abnormal increase. Over the period 1938 to 1947 deaths attributed to this cause increased by about 80 per cent.
