ARGENTINE MEAT FOR BRITAIN

New Agreement Said To Be “Bad Business” LONDON, May 28 (Recd Bpm). The “Sunday Express” described the trade agreement which the British Government is reported to hav e reached with Argentina as “a bad business.” The paper says: “After four months of haggling our negotiators have agreed to pay the Argentine £96 a ton for meat. The interests of meat producers in Britain and in the Empire have been betrayed.” A message from Buenos Aires said that British and Argentine negotiators have reached agreement in principle for a new trade pact, authoritative sources reported. A spokesman for the British trade mission said it was true that the outlines of the general agreement had been worked out. Argentina’s national economic council was to meet immediately to act on the agreement. Authoritative trade sources said that under the agreement, Britain will pay about 17i cents per lb. for Argentine meat, this being the maximum Britain would pay. In exchange, Argentine would get concessions that permit the Government to compensate meat-packers who are demanding a higher export price.
